Turn Your Windows 10 Computer Into a Wi-Fi Hotspot

 

Windows: If you have a Windows computer with a wired internet connection, you may want to share that with other devices. You can do this with a little command line trickery to turn your desktop into a Wi-Fi hotspot.

While technically this has been possible for a while, the process has changed over the years. You can check out the new steps for Windows 10 in the video above from tech blog Techniqued, or follow the steps here:

  1. Press Win+X to open the power user settings menu and choose “Command Prompt (Admin)“.
  2. Enter the following command, replacing the values for SSID and key with the network name and password you want: netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=AdHoc key=password
  3. Run the following command to start the network: netsh wlan start hostednetwork
  4. Search in the Start menu for “View network connections.”
  5. Right-click your main ethernet connection and choose “Properties.”
  6. Under the “Sharing” tab, click the box labeled “Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s internet connection.”
  7. In the drop down below the above box, choose the network connection that currently has internet access. Click OK.

At this point, you’ll have a brand new Wi-Fi network that’s connected to your home internet. Keep in mind that this will only work as long as the Windows machine that’s running the network is active. This also isn’t a total replacement for a proper router, but it can get you by in a pinch.

Google Forms and WordPress

Hello everyone,

I have been working with a military contractor and doing some special coding and one thing they impressed on me is the use of Google and all the apps.

One thing that I will be really using after this will be Google Forms. They embed nicely on the site in a page or a post and come with some amazing features for marketing and networking. If we have time Sunday I will show you some simple Google Form examples that you can use inside your WordPress based website.

Hey you guys Darnell here,

Back in the 5th grade I created a secret code character set and won the Weekly Reader award for the year. I won 5 years of National Geographic magazines which was pretty cool.

Anyway, after all those years I finally turned that 5th grade code writing into a Font Set that you can use to send secret messages back and forth to your friends.

No one but you and that friend can read the messages by translating the messages with the secret font set installed on your systems.

The trick is to write something in normal font style and then select the Tic-Tac_toe set then send with font set locked turned on or in a PDF. The receiver can only read it if they have that font set installed and would not know what it is if not.

If you’re like me I am always looking for a better way to make the mousetrap or at least to use it. Today I was trying to create a low cost way to produce Whiteboard Videos for my clients and my billboard systems and completed that system with some canned video engines that I can use now which reduce the cost from a few $1000 to $100 and less now. As a matter of fact I got it down to $50 for under 3 minutes so this will be great for my thrifty client base.

EdgeRank checks four things every time you post

Although there are those three main areas of the EdgeRank algorithm, there are actually four specific action-points that are used by EdgeRank each time you post. These aren’t necessarily fool-proof guarantees that your post will hit the News Feeds of your fans, but they’re all good indicators of the likelihood of that. The four specific points are these:

  1. user’s past interactions with the author
  2. user’s past interactions with that post type
  3. reactions from other users for that particular post
  4. amount of complaints or negative feedback on that post

Now to the dates and times which are conflicting from various sources but here goes:

Engagement rates are 18% higher on Thursdays and Fridays.

Another study found that engagement was 32% higher on weekends, so the end of the week is definitely a good rough guide to start experimenting with.

The best time of day to post on Facebook is debatable, with stats ranging from 1pm to get the most shares, to 3pm to get more clicks, to the broader suggestion of anytime between 9am and 7pm. It seems that this generally points to early afternoon being a solid time to post, and anytime after dinner and before work being a long shot.

There’s been lots of research done on the best time to send emails, particularly in the case of email marketing. Some research done by Dan Zarrella from Hubspot broke down each time of day and worked out which type of emails work best for that period.

Here’s what he found for emails:

10pm-6am: This is the dead zone, when hardly any emails get opened.

6am-10am: Consumer-based marketing emails are best sent early in the morning.

10am-noon: Most people are working, and probably won’t open your email.

Noon-2pm: News and magazine updates are popular during lunch breaks.

2-3pm: After lunch lots of people buckle down and ignore their inbox.

3-5pm: Property and financial-related offers are best sent in the early afternoon.

5-7pm: Holiday promotions & B2B promotions get opened mostly in the early evening.

7-10pm: Consumer promotions are popular again after dinner.

This is such a great hack that I had to repost this for you all.

 

1.    Create a Twitter App

  • Sign into dev.twitter.com with your Twitter account. Create a new app, add your own website and the callback URL (http://www.google.com/script) and then write a description.
  • Click the settings tab and select Read and Write for the Application Type. To save your work, click Update.
  • Then head over to the OAuth tool tab and write down the Consumer Secret and Consumer Key.

2.    Create an Auto-Responder Script

  • Go to script.google.com and copy the script. Now paste the auto-responder script in Google Drive.
  • Choose the beginning and ending days for when you’ll be away. Also enter the Twitter app keys and your Twitter handle.
  • Next, click on Run -> Start to initialize the auto-responder. If asked to authorize access to Google Script services, click on Yes.
  • Select Run -> Start again, which will prompt an “Authorization Required” box. Give authorization for the script to connect to your Twitter account, and your Twitter auto-responder is now complete.

Now every time you get a new follower they will get the response you create in the script.A good thing here is not to spam folks but be polite and thank them for following you and maybe give them your website for more information.
